BRD and NBII International
Valuable information on the management of biological resources is produced and stored around the world. BRD international efforts facilitate cooperation and information exchange with other nations and international organizations.
Currently,
international activities focus on three areas: sharing biological data
and information; developing standard approaches for biological inventory,
monitoring, and research; and providing training and technical assistance
to expedite scientific exchange. We emphasize collaboration with nations
that share biological resources, have similar ecosystems, address conservation
issues that are important to the United States, are developing technologies
useful to BRD endeavors, and provide
relevant data for access through the NBII.
We participate in collaborative international activities with:
Government agencies, such as Australia's
Environmental Resources Information Network (ERIN), Costa Rica's National
Institute of Biodiversity (INBio), and Mexico's
National Commission for the Knowledge and Use of Biodiversity (CONABIO);
and
International biodiversity conservation organizations, such as the
Convention on Biological Diversity, the G-7 Conference Environment and
Natural Resources Project, and the Man
and the Biosphere Program.
