Description:

Abstract:: The data set includes areas of coalfields and placer deposits in Alaska, as well as specific locations of significant mineral resources. The 238 mineral resource data points are divided into three categories by different symbols: operating mine (triangle), past producer (diamond), and deposit or occurrence (circle). Each data point is also subdivided by commodity, with eleven (11) commodity groups identified by different colors on the map and different abbreviation in the table.
Purpose:: This product is intended for graphic illustration purposes only. Further field investigations and information searches may update the information used to produce this map
Supplemental_Information:: Data in this data set are compiled from USGS Bulletin 1786, DGGS Special Report 37, USGS ARDF (Alaska Resource Data Files), and DGGS Annual Alaska Mineral Industry Reports. The data set is not a complete listing of known mineral occurrences in Alaska, but a small subset of the known mineral occurrences. Whether a deposit or occurrence is significant or not is based on the authors; criteria and they are solely responsible for this compilation.
