During the detailed review of this layer in preparation for public access, it became apparent the USGS DLG rivers and streams for Alaska dataset is not complete. Several major watersheds in Southwest Alaska are missing. Specific known omissions were Wood River, Kvichak River, Ugashik River, Naknek River, and Egegik River. Subsequent versions of this layer will correct this omission. These rivers and other rivers are not missing from the USGS hydrography layer included in the Digital Chart of the World 1:1,000,000 hydrography database, which is available through Environmental Systems Research Institute.
Any hardcopies utilizing these data sets shall clearly indicate their source. If the user has modified the data in any way they are obligated to describe the types of modifications they have performed on the hardcopy map. User specifically agrees not to misrepresent these data sets, nor to imply that changes they made were approved by Alaska Department of Natural Resources.
In May 1992 the USGS DLG "streams" were appended from 18 individual coverages stre1-stre18. There was no selection criteria.
Here are the steps to create the initial RIVERS coverage which has undergone some editing for "min" values but not for arcs:
