Abstract:

The boundaries of the native regional corporations created by the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) were derived in March 1992 from the 1990 TIGER database, prepared by the US Census Bureau. TIGER line data was snapped to the township grid coverage. Other edits followed visual comparison to the Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) "Alaska Land Status Map" dated June 1987.

Purpose: Mapping purposes - statewide.

Original file from Tiger database and snapped to twpspoly. Edits made after comparing with BLM land status map of 6/87. Annotation subclass anno2mil - annosymbol 908 - added 1/94. QC by Dave Luck 2/4/94.

Revisions: Edits 1/31/94 by J. Tam Adjusted ANCSA Corporation boundaries to follow those shown on the BLM map titled Alaska Land Status Map from June 1987. Mainly modified the arcs that form the outer polygon; i.e. the ones out in the water. Had to extrapolate for Calista Corp and Aleut Corp because the source map does not show the entire state. Also added annotation subclass anno2mil - annosymbol 908 in textset font61.txt - to draw corporation names for maps at 1:2500000.

QC by Dave Luck completed 2/4/94.

Modifications 1/13/95 by J. Tam: Replace common boundary between Arctic Slope Regional Corporation and NANA Regional Corporation with arcs from updated BORO coverage which in turn was from a coverage created by Ron VanPelt who used ../sections/new_k and new_u; ../grids/ll1x1 and itma.

4/25/95 K Zeiner Replaced the Canadian border in southeast with the border from the /net/beluga/db/alaska/grids/twpspoly.

7/20/95 - J. Tam Unsplit arcs. Placed nodes at qmq borders to facilitate use of POLYGONBORDERTEXT command when making qmq plots.
