Abstract
This coverage contains the land ownership record, at the section level, for the State of Alaska and is clipped to the cst63xsi coastline coverage.
Purpose
Provide consultants, planners, resource managers from state, municipal and federal agencies, as well as the private sector a section level indicator of land ownership for the State of Alaska.
Actual ownership of any land should be verified using legal documents such as contracts. leases, etc. and/or Master Title Plats (federal land),
Procedures used: Current BLM casetype, casestatus and land status information is used to classify data extracted from federal land records which is stored in an Informix based system known as the Alaska Land Information System (ALIS). Questions about the data contained in ALIS should be directed to the Federal Public Information Center located in the Federal Building, Room 148 in Anchorage, Alaska. The telephone number is 907-271-5960 (TTY - 907-271-5969).
A routine has been established and refined over time to extract selected data and output it in a predefined format. The resulting flat file, which contains 1 record per transaction, is placed on a UNIX platform and compressed.
The program run by BLM to extract lands status data for DNR is known as DNRDUMP. BLM's Division of Support Services, Branch of Information Technology Services, Application Services Section (AK954), processes the data.
ADNR staff then ftp the compressed file to working space on their UNIX based network. The data is summarized by record on Meridian, Township, Range, Section (MTRS).
ADNR's data is extracted from the Land Administration System (LAS) data warehouse to a flat file. Casetype, casestatus and land status is used to select and classify extracted data.
A third source of data used in the compilation of this coverage is an historical section level dataset which contains established attributes. Currently the CSU names is the only data used from this dataset.
BLM and LAS data are processed by ADNR using SAS. The two primary programs are: BLMLS.SAS LASLS.SAS. These programs distill the raw BLM and LAS data to section level data using the secondary tables contained in BLMFMTS.SAS and LASFMTS.SAS which contain tables to classify BLM casetypes into DNR categories.
The summary results create a dataset with one (1) observation per section.
In Arc/Info (current version 8.3) the newly generated section level coverage is dissolved on all attributes.
The coverage is then clipped to the Alaska 1:63360 coastline (cst63xsi) coverage.
Any hardcopies or published datasets utilizing these data sets shall clearly indicate their source. If the user has modified the data in any way they are obligated to describe the types of modifications they have performed. User specifically agrees not to misrepresent these data sets, nor to imply that changes they made were approved by the Alaska Department of Natural Resources.
All LAS and ALIS records have been used statewide.
