THEME: Conservation System Unit Boundaries (ARC 7.0 coverage) COVER: csu SCALE: variable, mostly 1:250,000 and 1:63,360 SOURCE: BLM, USFWS, and NPS data files; DNR research DATE: 1991 with frequent updates LAST UPDATE: 7/11/95 - J.Tam(ADNR) - minor revisions TAPE CREATED BY ADNR ON: 7/27/95 ABSTRACT/DESCRIPTION: Federal conservation system units (CSU) were created by the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act (ANILCA) of 1980. Many existing withdrawals were expanded and several new withdrawals were created. The original boundary lines for the CSU coverage were received from BLM. DNR converted the data to ARC/INFO and subsequently received updates from the various federal agencies involved. DNR's compilation also includes the National Petroleum Reserve - Alaska (NPRA), which, technically, is not considered a federal CSU. This ARC 7.0 data file includes the following components: Component Scale Source National Wildlife Refuges mostly at 1:250,000, USFWS digital data some at 1:63,360 Alaska Maritime NWR 1:250,000 USFWS quadrangle maps National Parks 1:63,360 National Park Service digital data Chugach National Forest 1:63,360 Chugach National Forest digital data Tongass National Forest 1:250,000 Tongass National Forest digital data Wild & Scenic Rivers section-level Some from BLM digital data, some from DNR land selections project quadrangle maps National Petroleum 1:250,000 Quadrangle maps from DNR land Reserve - Alaska (NPRA) selections project The polygon item NAME contains the names of the CSUs. The polygon item NEWNAME is identical to NAME except for two polygons associated with Kenai Fjords National Park. These two polygons, administratively within the original bounds of the Kenai Fjords National Park, are now part of Kachemak Bay State Park (KBSP). For these two polygons, NEWNAME is 'blank'. The boundaries for these polygons are also distinguishable through the only arc attribute available for this coverage, NEW_BNDS. ARC ATTRIBUTES: Item Format Attributes NEW_BNDS 3, 3, C OLD represents former administrative bounds for Kenai Fjords National Park NEW represents present boundary between Kenai Fjords National Park and KBSP OTH represents all other unaffected arcs POLYGON ATTRIBUTES: Items Format Attributes NUMBER 2, 2, i See below for valid codes.
