Ecotrust
Ecotrust is a not-for-profit 501(C)(3) organization committed to developing new strategies for conservation by helping local communities build new economies based on protecting their environment. Believing that the leadership of the United States and Canada in global environmental issues depends on practicing at home what we preach abroad, we focus on the Coastal Temperate Rain Forests of North America. We seek to provide practical examples of "conservation-based development" both as examples for other communities around the world and so that policy toward sustainable development can grow out of actual experience. Our staff brings experience in conservation, community and organization development, science, forestry, regional planning and geographical information systems, economic development, and financial management.
Our strategy is to act as catalyst and broker to promote conservation-based development in the coastal temperate rain forests of North America. What we bring to communities in which we work is a philosophy, a kind of mental compass by which local organizations can determine their present bearings, set new directions that integrate ecological conservation and economic development, and chart their courses to a secure future.
