Each station is spaced no more than 2 kilometers from another station in such a pattern as to allow complete coverage of the lower bay by circular searches (by turning) from each station with a maximum detectable distance of 1 kilometer. One kilometer has been determined to assure close to 100% delectability with the current hydrophones and sonic tags in depths up to 400 meters. PURPOSE: These data were collected as part of an effort to quantify the ecosystem level effects of the commercial harvest of halibut as part of a 10 year study to evaluate the commercial harvest of halibut in Glacier Bay National Park. Knowledge of the home range size and shape as well as the degree of site fidelity was lacking for halibut and was determined to be necessary to evaluate what effects the commercial harvest has on Glacier Bay.
