  Description:
    Abstract: This dataset contains information on the tracklines that were followed while setting research long-lines for Pacific halibut at Glacier Bay National Park. These data were collected as part of an effort to quantify the ecosystem level effects of the commercial harvest of halibut as part of a 10 year study to evaluate the commercial harvest of halibut in Glacier Bay National Park. Knowledge of the effects of commercial fishing on CPUE, habitat selection, the effects of recent glaciation and oceanographic conditions on halibut and other ground fish distribution and general population parameters was lacking in Glacier Bay and was determined to be necessary to evaluate what effects the commercial harvest has on the Glacier Bay Ecosystem.

A large stratified-,random sample was set between Willoughby/Drake Islands and,the Marble Islands. In addition there are a series of 4,nautical mile spaced longlines set up the Bay and each Arm.

      Process_Description: From 1994 the position of the hook at the setting of the,long-line was determined by recording with GPS the time and,track line (with multiple fixes) of the set and then,calculating the position of each numbered hook. This results,in capture fixes being of much greater accuracy. Release,locations were determined with the use of GPS fixes at the,release site.
