  Description:
    Abstract: ABSTRACT: This dataset contains information on the recapture of wire-tagged halibut from research long-lines set in Glacier Bay National Park. Part of the data is from returns to the IPHC and part from returns that occurred first to NBS personnel and were then passed onto the IPHC. The amount of ancillary data varies with who the fish were returned to and what could be obtained from the fishermen who caught the halibut. PURPOSE: These data were collected as part of an effort to quantify the ecosystem level effects of the commercial harvest of halibut as part of a 10 year study to evaluate the commercial harvest of halibut in Glacier Bay National Park. Knowledge of the effects of commercial fishing on CPUE, habitat selection, the effects of recent glaciation and oceanographic conditions on halibut and other ground fish distribution and general population parameters was lacking in Glacier Bay and was determined to be necessary to evaluate what effects the commercial harvest has on the Glacier Bay Ecosystem.
