A watershed is the land area that directly drains to a common stream, river or lake, often considered synonymous with a drainage basin or catchment. In the Pacific salmon territory of North America, there are 661 watersheds (excluding Canadian Yukon data, which is unavailable), totaling 3,300,378,1024 acres in size. Watersheds lines demarcate boundaries that are essential for considerations of water quality and quantity, as well as salmon management and restoration.
