Metadata and Maps

Metadata (data about data) on this CD-ROM provides pertinent information about specific data layers such as: descriptions of relational tables, code classification of attributes, extent or projection information, or procedures used to create specific data layers. The full utility of many data layers is compromised without sufficient metadata.

Most metadata on this CD is compliant with FGDC (Federal Geographic Data Committee) standards, and can be browsed using the table of contents at the top of each page. Data that are not documented according to FGDC guidelines often have other brief html documents associated with them. To view the metadata for any given data set, first select it from the data layer browser on the right and then right-click on the mouse or choose "layer" from the pull down menu.
